Research team organised a workshop on the edible insect product development in Roi Et province
Professor Siriamornpun, Professor Tanomtong, Associate Professor Weerapreeyakul and research assistants from Mahasarakahm and Khon Kean Universities organised the edible insect product development at Kadisorn Farm in Roi Et province to help local edible insect farmers to develop value added products from crickets. We also invited a speaker from Roi Et Provincial Agricultural Extension Office to give a talk on the government's policy and plans to support edible insect farmers in the province. Also, we invited Mr Nopporn Toemee, a veterinarian from the National Institute of Animal Health, Department of Livestock Development, Thailand to consult and advise on key problems and obstacles on edible insects' disease and farm management.
Our research team visited the cricket enterprise community in Nakhon Phanom province

International Conference on Research Network Building and Collaboration in Science, Technology and Engineering 2022
Mahasarakham University will be hosting a virtual international conference on research network building and collaboration in science, technology and engineering between 24th and 25th March 2022. This event is supported by Newton Fund in connection with British Council and Thai Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. Dr Pattanapong Tiwasing from Coventry University will be delivering a keynote speech on "Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration" using an example from Newton Fund Institutional Links between Thailand and the UK along with Professor Alonglod Tanamtong and Associate Professor Nathida Weerapreeyakul from Khon Kean University. This aims to bring together academic researchers, policy-makers and practitioners to help promote interdisciplinary research and improve academic ecosystems. Food Systems of the Future as Climate Change Mitigation: Finding a place for Edible Insects?
Our research team from CBiS at Coventry University has prepared the blog to respond to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, as know as COP26. We found that edible insect farming is more environmentally friendly than meat production. Edible insects produce significantly less greenhouse gas emissions. The average greenhouse gas production for 1kg of protein from insects is only 1g, compared to 2,850g for cattle, or 300g from chicken (Eat Grub, 2021). This is in addition to other environmental benefits related to insect production as insects do not require as much land to produce (they can be cultivated vertically) and require a lot less water and feed. Therefore, edible insect production can not only mitigate the negative impacts of climate change but also limit biodiversity loss. Click here to read more!
Our research team carried out field work in Roi Et province, Thailand
On October 12th 2021, Prof Sirithon Siriamornpun and research assistants from Mahasarakham University visited Kanisorn Farm in Roi Et province to meet 25 edible insect farmers and to carry out our project survey. For this visit, our team exchanged knowledge related to insect production and discussed key barriers and challenges related to exporting and marketing activities.
Our team members attended the Future Food Symposium 2021
Dr Tiwasing from CBiS and Prof Siriamornpun from Mahasarakham University presented the results of the literature review entitled “Edible, Sustainable and Ethical Insects: Devising an Export Roadmap from Thailand to Europe” and introduced the project to the audience in Track E “Sustainable Sourcing and Ethical Consumption” at the “Future Food Symposium 2021” (virtual) event hosted by Centre for Business in Society (CBiS), Coventry University on September 9th, 2021 (see the link: http://futurefoodsymposium.uk/call-for-papers/track-e/).
